It’s still about John. Even in the midst of these scenes.

… That … is an interesting thought.

It’s interesting because even in moments between Sherlock and Irene, John is always… present. He is always… remembered.

It is interesting why Irene had to resort to revealing to John of all people that she was still alive. With all due respect to the beautiful and conniving Ms. Adler, whom I adore, I still find it incredibly insulting that Irene believed for a moment that she can actually talk John into betraying Sherlock for her, into helping her steal her phone back.

… Or was that actually her intention?

Was she, perhaps, testing him? The way Mycroft did so long ago?

Was she, perhaps, testing herself as well? What was she willing to bargain with John, to get what she wants? She did eventually bend to John’s begging to tell Sherlock she was still alive.

… Or was she actually simply looking to John to give her the convenient excuse to do what she wanted anyway, to talk to Sherlock again?

Why did she remember John, of all people? Could she have felt a connection with him — not necessarily him as a person, but with him as a person who cares for Sherlock Holmes? And is that why she chose to meet him? To see what she could learn from him?

And even in that moment in the flat, when it was just Sherlock and Irene alone, finally… Sherlock had to ask where John is, first. He looked for him, even during this quiet, vulnerable, sizzling moment when he could be alone with The Woman. I think he was thrilled to be with her, to be honest. But at the same time… I think he’s also unconsciously seeking John for… guidance?

Perhaps… in the same way that Irene sought John’s guidance in that dark warehouse?

Why do they both look for John Watson, even when they’re with each other? Why do they remember him? What do they want to learn and know from him?

And why does Sherlock remember John, most of all, when it came to love?

John, it’s always John, even after everyone else has left him, it is always John. And it always will be
